Social networking website Twitter failed to open on Tuesday around 5.10 PM. The site that has become the best medioum of reading news and studying viral ideas suddenly collapsed in the evening.
The status after one clicked the url read: "Sorry, something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing, we are going to fix it up and have things back to normal again."
The site remained down for nearly 5 minutes and came back around 5.15. The outage continued in many parts of the world.
Accepting the problem, the company said that its social network was suffering ongoing outages on computers and phones and it was working to resolve issues which have been widely reported across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America.
Users from Scandinavia to Saudi Arabia to South Africa reported outages. India and Russia also suffered performance issues, according to a Twitter technical site.
Intermittent breakdowns later spread to the United States and Canada in the early part of their working day.
After the persistent closure, Twitter down hashtag trended on Twitter itself.
