Confirming the news on its blog, Whatsapp has made it clear that it will stop supporting the Symbian Operating System which earlier used to feature into high end Nokia phones and its N series devices.

Attention Whatsapp users! This might be really important news for you. For all the chat savvy users who constantly use this instant messaging app, the company is ending support to a number of devices which will no longer be able to run Whatsapp post December 31.

Confirming the news on its blog, Whatsapp has made it clear that it will stop supporting the Symbian Operating System which earlier used to feature into high end Nokia phones and its N series devices.  

Further in list the chat app will no longer be compatible with a few Blackberry and Windows phone. Devices running Andorid 2.1 and Andorid 2.2 will also be barred from using Whatsapp.

Post December 31, phones listed below will no longer support Whatsapp:

>> Phones using BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10

>> Phones using Nokia S40

>> Phones using Nokia S60

>> Phones using Android 2.1 and Android 2.2

>> Phones using Windows Phone 7.1

>> Apple iPhone 3GS and iPhones using iOS 6

"This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family, and loved ones using WhatsApp, " the company informed in a blog post.

The most popular messaging app has also suggested users to upgrade their phones to newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using the chat app.
