Saving before budget: Railways cuts down on use of A4 sheets

In a green move which will also see it cut down on expenses, the Railway Ministry will be using 12 lakh A4 sheets less in presenting its Budget for the next fiscal, relying on IT tools instead to convey the information.

The environmentally-friendly initiative by the Budget Wing of the Railway Ministry will see an alternative approach being adopted to communicate budget information on Pink Book and Demands for Grants using a need-based selective method.

The move will reduce needless use of paper in sharing information with the various railway field units, a release said here. The information will be disseminated using IT tools like Intranet, Internet and e-mail. The move has resulted in the saving of 12 lakh sheets of A-4 size paper, it said.

This amounts to a significant contribution towards efforts to preserve environmental resources and will also ensure financial savings, it said.
