The state of Gujay, arat on Sunday reported the first coronavirus death. A 69-year-old man passed away in Surat taking the death count in India to 7. Earlier today, a 38-year-old man from Bihar becomes the sixth casualty of coronavirus in India. According to the sources, the man had a history of travelling to Qatar. This is the first death reported from Bihar.

On Saturday, the patient passed away at AIIMS in Patna due to kidney failure, reported news agency ANI. The sample of the deceased person has tested positive for novel coronavirus, said Dr Prabhat Kumar Singh, AIIMS Patna, Bihar.

The first casualty of coronavirus infection was reported from Karnataka. The second patient was a 68-year-old woman in Delhi who died at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. Third patient with COVID-19 passed away in Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital. Fourth casualty was reported from Punjab.

The total number of coronavirus patients in India mounted to 341. Maharashtra is the worst affected state with more than 70 coronovirus cases. Originated in China's Wuhan city, the deadly virus claimed nearly 10,000 lives so far. More than 100,000 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection across the globe.

As the virus continued to spread, Centre and state governments scaled efforts to prevent spread. India is observing a 14-hour-long "Janata curfew" today to practice social distancing exercise. All markets and shops except twill be closed for the day. However, medicine shops are functional today.

"I request that all citizens become part of this nationwide campaign and make the fight against Corona a success," Narendra Modi tweeted.
