EXCLUSIVE: Karnataka’s Bengaluru set to get Anti-Terrorist Cell today

New Delhi:

Taking a serious note of the growing threat of terrorism in the country and in Karnataka’s IT Capital i.e. Bengaluru, the city police have decided to form a separate anti-terrorist cell. The anti-terrorist cell, which will officially come into existence from Tuesday, will be working under the Central Crime Branch (CCB). It will be headed by an ACP level officer and monitored by Joint Commissioner CCB.

The move comes after various inputs regarding the sleeper cell networks in Bengaluru were given by the Intelligence Bureau and Karnataka’s internal security division.

Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of the CCB, told News Nation, “We need to monitor terror activities in the city. So we have decided to make a separate cell for this which will keep a tab on terror activities."

Along with Anti-Terrorist Cell, the CCB is forming two more wings to focus on anti-narcotics and women protection. The new wings will be known as Anti-Narcotics Wing and Women Protection Wing. Both wings will be headed by an ACP level officer.

Last month, a number of Jamat-e-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) cadres were arrested in and around Bengaluru, from whom explosive devices and many other incriminating materials were found in the last one year. These terrorists were involved in the October 2, 2014 bomb blasts at Burdwan in West Bengal.
