A speeding car that belonged to Karnataka BJP MLA CT Ravi was involved in an accident on Monday night, in which two people were killed and three were injured in on National Highway 75 near the Urkihalli village in the Tumkur district of Karnataka. Ravi’s car rammed into another that was parked by the road, whose occupants had stepped out to answer nature’s call. The Chikmagalur MLA also sustained minor injuries. The occupants of the other car were returning from the Kollur Temple when they were hit near Kunigal.
The two who succumbed to their injuries were identified as Sunil Gowda and Shashi Kumar. S Shantharam, the state BJP media convenor said issued a statement saying that the MLA was present at the spot till the bodies were removed and the injured were shifted to a hospital. He only left after the police permitted him to and the car was impounded. The MLA was not driving the car, as alleged by some, nor was he drinking. He too suffered minor injuries on the chest and is under rest.

The kin of the victims claimed that CT Ravi, along with the driver, should be held responsible for the accident. A case in the matter has been registered at Kunigal Police Station under Sections 279, 336 and 304A of IPC.
