At least 11 passengers died and around 30 others injured after a bus caught fire in Odisha's Ganjam district on Sunday. According the reports, the bus caught fire after coming in contact with a 11 KV wire. The victims were returning from home after attending a wedding party at a nearby village, the reports added. The bus came in contact with the high voltage electric wire around 1 pm and caught fire.
The fire tenders rushed to the spot after being informed. The injured passengers have been admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
In a similar incident, a bus carrying around 70 tourists came in contact with an 11 KV wire near Baliapal in Jaleswar area of Balasore district while one of them sustained injuries. The victim has been admitted to Baliapal hospital.
Earlier, this month a motorcycle collided with a van on the National Highway-16 here, killing two people and injuring one. The three were riding the motorcycle when the accident occurred near Soro area. The victims, all residents of nearby Bhadrak district, were on their way to Panchalingeswar at Nilagiri.
The deceased were identified as Chandan Rout of Asurali village and Simarani Swain of Nenjara village in the district. The injured, Swapna Jena, has been admitted to a hospital here, the police said.
