10 lakh students to take pledge for drug-free Punjab

Around 10 lakh students from 1,500 unaided private colleges of Punjab will soon take a pledge to make the state drug-free, according to an official statement.

"An anti-drug campaign under the leadership of Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will also be launched," the statement added.

A joint action committee (JAC) of unaided private colleges from across the state announced the decision after meeting the chief minister in Chandigarh on Thursday.

The delegation, led by Congress leader and JAC chairman Ashwani Sekhri, had come to meet the CM to thank him for the cabinet decision to release the pending dues on account of the SC post-metric scholarships.

The chief minister released a poster designed by JAC to highlight the problem of drugs in the state.

The poster underlined the dream of state youth of a drug-free Punjab.

Sekhri said the JAC would aggressively work towards a drug-free Punjab and the movement would be completely apolitical.
