Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Saturday demanded the resignation of Aam Aadmi Party leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state Assembly, following allegations of accepting money from party workers.
In a statement issued here, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief said Khaira should be sacked by the AAP leadership if he does not quit on moral grounds. Jakhar cited the reported allegations made by state AAP co-president Balbir Singh, purportedly to some AAP workers, that Khaira allegedly took cash from party workers.
Describing the charges as “shocking”, Jakhar said the AAP leader had lost all moral right to continue in the responsible position of LoP. The Congress leader also urged the Assembly Speaker to take cognizance of the charges against Khaira and initiate necessary action under the rules of the Assembly.
Notably, Khaira accused AAP state co-president Balbir Singh of “hatching a conspiracy” to malign his image and remove him from the post of the Leader of Opposition.
