National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has released a list of dos and don'ts for the people after cyclone Vardah wreaked havoc in Chennai. The NDMA recommended the following safety measures via its Twitter handle.

# Do not try to enter the damaged buildings

# Volunteer to help the people in need

# Use mobile phone only during emergency

# When 'all clear messages' is declared by the government officials then only venture out

# Listen to the advice of local officials and emergency workers

# Watch out for broken electric poles, broken glasses and sharp objects

# Stay away from flooded and affected areas

# Drink boiled water

# Do not use toilet if the water pipes are damaged
