The Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) service from Mettupalayam to Udhagamandalam was cancelled on Thursday following heavy landslide between Kallar and Hillgrove railway stations.
The train left Mettupalayam at 7.10 am with 200 passengers. Following the landslide, the train took the passengers back to Kallar and the railways arranged buses for the travellers to Udhagamandalam, railway sources said.
Owing to the landslide, trains from Udhagamandalam to Ketty and from Coonoor to Udhgamandalam were cancelled for the day, they added.
Restoration of the railway track was being carried out and soon the service would resume, the sources said.
