Four people were killed in on Saturday when the jeep they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Tyuni area of Dehradun district.

The vehicle veered off the Tyuni-Hanol road at around 4am when the driver lost control while negotiating a bend, Tyuni police station incharge Rakesh Shah told PTI.

All the four occupants of the vehicle were killed on the spot as it fell into a 150 metres deep gorge, he said, adding all bodies have been recovered.

The deceased were returning to their villages early in the morning after offering prayers at a temple in Hanol. Two of the deceased were from Hadu village and as many from Telar village in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, he said.

Though the exact cause of the mishap is being investigated, the driver of the vehicle apparently dozed off, leading to the accident, Shah said.
