New Delhi:

Over 3,000 college and school students in the national capital were given awareness lessons on cyber safety at an interactive session hosted by the Delhi Police Tuesday.

The event, which was organised to create awareness about online threats and dangers, was graced by Delhi Police commissioner Amulya Patnaik as the chief guest.

At the occasion, Patnaik released an educative booklet titled: ‘Be Cyber Safe’. A film called ‘Be Cyber Safe’ was also screened, said Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North).

Lawyer Pawan Duggal stressed the need to make cyber security an integral part of one’s lifestyle and cautioned the youth against free services available on the internet.

Anyesh Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime), also addressed the event and informed the students on how and where to report the cases.

Police officials at the event said victims should immediately logout if they face online threats and report the matter to their parents and police.

On facing any cyber threats, one can approach police through the Delhi Police or the Home Affairs Ministry portal. They can also file a complaint at the District Crime Cells, Roy said.

Creation of fake profiles, emails, obscene profiles, messages over social media, acquiring someone else’s identity, cheating someone using internet/smartphones are some common cyber crimes, he added.
