In a new year gift to Delhiites, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is all set to throw open the much-awaited Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 stretch of its Pink Line extension. The new segment of the 59-km-long Pink Line, which spans from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, is part of the Phase-III of the DMRC network. The 9.7-km Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 corridor has been already inspected for safety, according to officials. The stations on the corridor include Lajpat Nagar, Vinobapuri, Ashram, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mayur Vihar Ph-I and Mayur Vihar Pocket-1.

This extension of Delhi Metro's Pink Line will be formally flagged off by the Honourable Minister of State (Independent Charge) Hardeep Singh Puri and the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia from Metro Bhawan at about 11 am on December 31 2018. Passenger services for this section will commence on the same day from 4 pm.

Taking to Twitter, the DMRC wrote, "Mark your calendars! Pink Line extension from Lajpat Nagar to Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 will begin operations from 4 pm on December 31, 2018. The section will connect Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 through Vinoba Puri, Ashram, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Mayur Vihar 1. #DelhiMetro".

Apart from the Lajpat Nagar-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 stretch, the Delhi Metro network is going to get more intricate with operations starting in two more corridors anytime soon. The two other corridors set to be opened are the 9.4-km stretch from Dilshad Garden to New Bus Adda extension of the Red Line and the 29.7-km long Aqua Line of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). The opening of this 50-km-long combined corridor will finally mark the completion of the Delhi Metro's much-anticipated Phase-III project.

On Monday, the DMRC has also inaugurated an exhibition in the upper area of the foyer of Rajiv Chowk Metro station, to mark the completion of 16 years of its operations. As part of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project, a 103 km-long stretch has been also proposed and Delhi Metro will continue to serve people with greater amenities and efficiency, officials said.
