Delhi Violence: 5 Stations On Delhi Metro's Pink Line Closed In View Of Jaffrabad, Maujpur Clashes

Five metro stations on Delhi Metro's Pink Line remained shot on Tuesday in view of the violence that erupted during clashes over amended citizenship law in the north-east region of the national capital. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced announced that Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar will continue to remain closed. The trains are being terminated at Welcome metro station on the Pink Line, it said.

DMRC had shut these five stations on Monday in the wake of violence that rocked area resulting in deaths of five people including one policeman.

"Security Update. Jaffrabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar remain closed. Trains are being terminated at Welcome metro station," the DMRC tweeted on Tuesday.

Section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed in riot-hit parts of the North-East Delhi. Fresh incidents of stone-pelting between two groups has been reported from Maujpur and Brahampuri area on Tuesday morning. Delhi Police & Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel held a flag march in Brahampuri area after stone-pelting incident.

Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has called an urgent meeting, at his residence, of MLAs and officials of the violence-hit areas. The Delhi government has ordered all private and government schools to be closed in the northeast Delhi district to remain closed today in the wake of the violence.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he will meet MLAs of all parties of violence-hit areas in Delhi along with senior officials. He said he was orried about prevailing situation in certain parts of Delhi and urged everyone to shun violence.

Three firefighters were injured after a group of people set a fire engine ablaze. In Maujpur, passengers travelling in a rickshaw were thrashed and looted of their valuables this morning.

A Delhi Police head constable was killed and a deputy commissioner of police injured as clashes over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act broke out again in northeast Delhi's Jaffrabad, Maujpur and Chand Bagh, with protesters torching houses, shops and vehicles, and hurling stones at each other.
