In another incident related to the power struggle between Centre and the Delhi government, the names of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia has been removed from the guest list of an event to be attended by US First Lady Melania Trump. Kejriwal and Sisodia will not be a part of the event next week when Melania Trump is likely to watch a "happiness class" at a Delhi government school, ANI reported quoting sources.
The names of Kejriwal and Sisodia were removed by the central government, sources inside Delhi government and Aam Aadmi Party claimed. Melania Trump is expected to visit a government school in south Delhi as a special guest on Tuesday, the second day of US President Donald Trump's visit to India. She will also spend some time with the school children in an hour-long visit, according to reports.
Earlier, it was reported that Kejriwal and Sisodia will also be present to greet Melania Trump during her school visit. This is the first time that the US First Lady will be visiting schools of the Delhi government and preparations are in full swing ahead of the high-profile visit. Melania Trump is expected to spend around an hour at the state government school, PTI had reported quoting sources. Her solo visit will take place at a time when President Trump will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Manish Sisodia has been credited with the introduction of the 'happiness class' in Delhi government schools. According to Indian Express, the happiness curriculum has become one of the flagship programmes of the Delhi government in the education sector and aims to help children relieve stress, meditate and discuss things that are troubling them. The curriculum was started in July, 2018. Under the programme, students spend 45 minutes a day mediating, telling stories and sharing their experiences. A teacher oversees the session.
According to the White House, the Trumps will arrive in Ahmedabad on Monday, where President Donald Trump will deliver remarks at Sardar Patel Stadium with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thereafter, the President and the First Lady will visit the Taj Mahal in Agra. They will then fly to New Delhi and rest overnight, and have a full program on Tuesday.
