Delhi Govt imposes hefty fines for public consumption of liquor

Delhi Government has ordered that anyone found consuming alcohol in public places will be arrested.

The Delhi government has decided to strictly enforce the Excise Act post November 7 under which consuming alcohol at public places attract a fine of Rs 5,000 and if the offender creates nuisance than the fine will be upto Rs 10,000 with a jail term of three months.

A strict vigil will be maintained at liqour stores and surrounding areas to discourage public consumption of liqour and causing public nuisance, he said.

The decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting of the Excise Department chaired by him.

“We have decided on a three-fold approach. Over the next week, special teams will inspect all liquor stores across the city to ensure that the licence terms are not violated,” Sisodia said.

Special teams of excise officials have been formed to enforce the plan.
