In a shocking incident, a man was charred to death after his moving SUV caught fire near Madhuban Chowk in West Delhi's Pitampura. According to reports, the 42-year-old man was on his way to the airport in Mahindra XUV 500 when the incident happened. He was supposed to board a flight to Europe for a planned trip.

The victim, identified as Ajay Gupta - a resident of Alipur –used to run a transport business. He is survived by his wife and three children.

According to fire officials, they received information about the accident around 10.40 pm on Thursday night.

"Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot but the vehicle had been completely burnt and the fire put out by the time they reached there," a senior fire officer said.

A fully charred body of Gupta was recovered from inside the vehicle, they added.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is going on in the matter. A Forensic Science Laboratory team inspected the scene, police said. The report is awaited.

During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Gupta could not escape because the automatic system of the car got locked due to fire.

The post-mortem was conducted on Friday morning and the body was handed over to the family members, police said.
