Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that tenants in the Delhi will be able to apply for separate pre-paid electricity meters now. Kejriwal announced a new scheme for tenants called 'Mukhyamantri Kirayedaar Bijli Meter Yojna'. Under this scheme even who are living on rent in tha national capotal, will be able to apply for pre-paid meters and get the benefits of government's electricity subsidy. This will be applicable for domestic use only. Kejriwal also said that these prepaid meters will be home-delivered to the tenants by the government.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said till now, tenants were not able to avail the Delhi government's power subsidy scheme under which there is no charge for the electricity consumption of up to 200 units.
"It was a long-pending demand of tenants in Delhi. Tenants will have to get prepaid meter installed after depositing security money of Rs 3,000," Kejriwal told reporters.
Under the new scheme, tenant will have to submit rent agreement or rent receipt and proof of address of the residence where they are residing.
