The Women and Child Development Department (WCD) of the Delhi government has cracked the whip on latecomer staff and issued a strict warning to them.

Those reporting after 09:45 am will be considered “late” and on every three latecomings, one casual leave will be deducted automatically, the department issued an order.

The officials will have to submit an explanation to the director of the department detailing the reason for coming late, the order said.

In the order issued by WCD Director Shilpa Shinde last week, she stated “The official reporting time is 9.30 am. Appropriate action will be taken as per rules against officers/officials, who are habitual latecomers.”

An attendance sheet of all staff working in different branches of the department would be prepared and submitted to the director on the first working day of every month, the order further stated.

Last year, Chief Secretary M M Kutty had warned latecomers at the Delhi Secretariat, which houses several departments, including transport, PWD, finance, power, offices of all ministers including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s.

Kutty directed Secretary (General Administration Department) to keep a watch on the attendance of officials and ensure that they mark themselves present in the biometric attendance system.
