Heavy rains hit several parts of Delhi and NCR on Saturday morning, causing water logging and traffic trouble bringing down the mercury level in the city. The capital city has been facing high humidity condition for more than a week. Streets near Rail Bhavan and Laxmi Nagar area were flooded following the heavy rainfall.
“The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.30 am at 21 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal,†a MeT Department official said.
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the traffic was affected on Mathura road, Shershah road, Mathura road to Bhairon road, Purana quila road, Bihari colony, Maharashi Raman marg, Teen Murti lane, 11 Murti and Girdhari Lal Goswami Marg near post office due to excessive waterlogging.
Waterlogging was reported at Jangpura area of Delhi too.
“Waterlogging was reported at Lajpat Nagar market, Pant Nagar bus stand and IP Marg near police headquarters. The traffic movement was closed on Bhairon road both ways due to waterlogging,†a police official said.
The weather office on Friday had forecast light rains in the city. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 33 degrees Celsius. The weatherman has predicted rains to continue during the day.Â
“Occasional spells of moderate rain with isolated heavy spells likely at some parts over Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Sonipat, Central, East, New Delhi, North, North East, North West, Shahdara, South, South East, South West, West Delhi, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad disticts of Delhi and NCR between September 1 to September 3†according to reports.Â
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon axis is looming over Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Jharkhand and heavy rain is expected due to the upper-level cyclonic circulation and low pressure around these states. Madhya Pradesh is also expected to face extreme heavy rainfall on Saturday.
The northeastern states of Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura are also likely to witness heavy downpour.
Earlier on Friday, the minimum temperature was 29.0 degrees whereas the maximum was recorded at 33.0 degrees Celsius
