Delhi on Monday witnessed massive traffic jam after over 1 lakh visitors gathered at India Gate to celebrate the New Year.
The Delhi traffic police has issued an alert asking people to avoid the India Gate C-Hexagon stretch saying the traffic will remain “heavy†in the area.
“Traffic will remain very heavy near India Gate C-Hexagon due to gathering of more than 1 lakh pedestrian and heavy volume of motorist. No parking available around India Gate. Advised to avoid India Gate and take alternate route,†Delhi Traffic Police tweeted.
Heavy volume of motorists and gathering of over 1 lakh pedestrian at around India Gate created the situation of massive traffic jam at Mandi House, ITO, Tilak Marg areas and blocked the Central and South Delhi.

At Mandi House, an ambulance stuck in the huge jam while patient inside was struggling with his life.

People stuck in the jam for hours expressed their anger on twitter and some even took a dig at Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.

The New Year revelry coupled with closure of Lajpat Nagar flyover brought the city to almost a standstill as heavy traffic jams in south and central Delhi spilled over to the whole city making life difficult for the commuters.
