With 2020 Delhi Assembly Elections knocking at the door, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday promised to provide free WiFi services across the national capital. The free WiFi facility which comes as a tool to lure Delhiites months ahead of the poll, can be availed in the next three-four months.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Kejriwal said the Cabinet has approved the free WiFi proposal to set up 11,000 hotspots across the city in the first phase. At least 200 people will have access to a single hotspot which will work in a range of 50 metres. This is the first time such an incident has taken place across the globe and the Delhiites are very happy about it.
Of the total 11,000 hotspots, seventy Assembly constituencies will have 100 each while the remaining 4,000 will be set up at bus queue shelters, the chief minister said, adding that people will get 15 GB data with 200 Mbps internet speed every month under this free WiFi project worth Rs 100 crore. He assured that more hotspots will be installed later as per the requirement.

Besides, the AAP leader has also announced that his government will install 14,000 CCTV cameras, 2,000 in every Assembly constituency, which according to him will play an important role in the safety of women in Delhi.
Kejriwal said several incidents have come to light in recent times where CCTV cameras helped police solve cases of theft and also proved significant in reducing number of crimes across Delhi. The authority has already begun work for the first of implementation at the scheduled places across the city, he added.

The ruling party has been working on various fronts to ensure that it retains the whopping 55 per cent vote share it got in the national capital in the recent parliamentary election for a "comfortable" victory in the Assembly elections due early next year.
In the 2015 Assembly elections, the Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had trounced the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), winning 67 of the 70 seats. Less than a year after its impressive performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the saffron party could manage to secure only three seats in the Delhi Assembly.
