Fresh incidents of arson and stone-pelting were reported from various parts of North-East Delhi as the violence continued in the area for third consecutive day on Tuesday. Two scooties were set on fire near Maujpur Metro Station. The police resorted to tear gas to disperse the rioters. A police chowki was vandalised in Khajuri Khas. The Delhi Fire Department received as many as 16 calls since 7 am on Tuesday. News Nation has learnt that as many as 35 companies of the paramilitary forces have been deployed in the region. Several shops were also set on fire near Vijay Park in Maujpur area.
The deceased have been identified as Shahid, Md Furkan, Rahul Solanki, Nazim head constable Ratan Lal and one Vinod. Two persons killed in the violence have not been identified so far. Police sources told News Nation that Vinod, 42, was stoned to death in front of his son Monu. Three journalists of private TV channels were also injured in the clashes on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court agreed to hear tomorrow the petition regarding violence held in Maujpur, Jaffrabad and adjoining area of North-east Delhi. Petition seeking constitution of an SIT consisting of officers from outside Delhi and direction to the Centre to request the Army to maintain law and order.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and LG Anil Baijal met Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “Both CM and I want that peace and harmony should remain intact in Delhi. We should do everything possible to maintain peace and order. We should also help Police in this,” Baijal said. Meanwhile, ambulances with paramedical staff have been deployed around Maujpur, Kardampuri and other North eastern areas. “Delhi Govt Health Department is there for assistance,” the AAP said on Twitter.
