Though the Aqua Line of the newly constructed Noida Metro has eased commuters’ burden to some extent, no direct connection with the Delhi Metro plays a spoilsport. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) and the Greater Noida Authority are planning to build a new Metro line which is likely to connect the Noida Metro Aqua Line with existing lines of Delhi Metro network, according to a Times of India report. With this, commuters travelling from Greater Noida will not be required to take up buses to reach Botanical Garden Metro.
“Those coming from Greater Noida areas are still using buses to reach Botanical Garden and take the metro from there towards Delhi. Most Aqua Line users are those travelling between Noida and Greater Noida. This is why the need was felt to start this new line to cater to Greater Noida and Delhi connectivity,” TOI reported mentioning PD Upadhyay, Executive Director, NMRC.
The new metro corridor, approved by the Greater Noida Authority, connecting Noida Sector 142 to Botanical Garden Metro Station might include 10 new metro stations and is likely to witness a daily ridership of around 1 lakh commuters by 2021, TOI said in the report, adding, the cost of the new line will be borne by Noida and Greater Noida and the detailed project report (DPR) will be revised after receiving the final approval from state cabinet and centre within three months. The new Metro line is expected to have a cost of Rs 2,798 crore.
