The CCTV footage of the accident shows the driver of the auto-rickshaw coming out and checking his vehicle if it has been damaged or not while ignoring the accident victim and then fleeing away.

The footage then shows a man stealing the broken phone of the victim, instead of helping him.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Matbool, a resident of West Bengal.

Speaking to News Nation, Joint Commissioner of Police, Deependra Pathak said, “It is a hit and run case. No one has come forward with any information to help find the culprit so far.”

“Victim Matbool was lying on the road for almost an hour till the time police was informed. A government hospital was just 500 metres from the accident spot”, the officer said, adding, “if he any passer-by had helped him, his life could have been saved.”

The police officer said that the victim was brought dead to the hospital. "We are looking for the auto driver, whose visuals have been captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the area," he said.

Matbool used to work as an e-rickshaw driver and at night he worked as a security guard, police said.
