Heavy downpour brings traffic woes in Delhi, leads to dip in mercury level

Heavy overnight showers led to a drop in mercury in the national capital even as traffic woes due to water-logging in various areas continued to trouble Delhiites. 

Delhi crawled under massive traffic jams on Monday due to water-logging with motorists stuck on roads after a spell of showers in the city. 

"The minimum temperature recorded at 8.30 AM was 25 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal for this time of the year," a MeT official said. 

The Safdarjung observatory received 12.1mm rainfall overnight while the reading at Palam observatory was 16mm. Humidity level was recorded at 93 per cent this morning. 

Vehicular movement was affected in various areas across the city, including at ITO, Vikas Marg, South Extension, Khanpur, Mahipalpur, Dhaulakuan, IIT Crossing and Nehru Place. 

The weatherman has predicted a cloudy day ahead with possibility of thunderstorm and heavy rains towards the evening.

"Maximum temperature is expected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius," the official added. 

Yesterday, the mercury had settled at 34.7 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius.
