Ghaziabad Additional District Magistrate Madan Singh Garbyal was mercilessly thrashed by a jobless bouncer with a cricket bat at a park near Garbyal’s home in city’s posh Raj Nagar area on Sunday evening. Garbyal was brutally beaten for nearly 20 minutes by the attacker in full public view but no one came to his rescue. It was only after the house help recognised profusely bleeding Garbyal that onlookers alerted the police and called for an ambulance. At present, the ADM is admitted to a city hospital and is said to be out of danger. He has suffered grievous injuries on his head and face.

The attacker has been identified as one Jasbir Singh. According to the Ghaziabad Police, Singh was serving in the Indian Army in early 90s. His career in the force ended after he was court-martialled in 1995. Due to his strong physique, Singh got easily got a job as a security guard. He was working as a bouncer at a mall in Ghaziabad but was sacked due to unknown reasons. While the police are tight-lipped on the exact reason of the brutal assault, a Dainik Jagran report said that the accused had recced the area prior to the attack.

Garbyal was out for his evening walk at a park near his home around 7 pm on Sunday. Reports suggest that there was a minor argument between Singh and the ADM. Suddenly, Singh snatched the cricket bat from children playing in the park and started thrashing Garbyal. He didn’t stop even after the cricket bat broken into two pieces. He dragged Garbyal to a nearby temple and kept on beating him. This entire assault continued for 20 minutes while people in the park turned mute spectators. The house help recognised Garbyal and forced everyone to alert the cops and call for an ambulance.

“Doctors say he's out of danger. He is under observation in ICU," Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ajay Shankar was quoted as saying. "He (Singh) worked as a bouncer in a mall but lost his job... it appears that he is mentally unstable," Pandey added. “The reason of the attack is yet to be ascertained. Attacker is being interrogated. He says that he was earlier dismissed from Army, it's being verified. He had also worked at some malls from where he was fired. He was currently unemployed,” Ghaziabad SSP Kalnidhi Naithani was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
