# Ghazipur garbage dump caves in
The garbage dump, in East Delhi's Ghazipur area, collapsed around 2:20 pm. The Delhi Traffic Police has said the road leading from the Delhi-Noida-Delhi Expressway towards Kondali and Ghazipur have been shut due to the landfill collapse.
The site has exceeded its occupancy but garbage is filled here in the absence of any other alternative. On an average, 22,000 metric tonne garbage is deposited here. In order to decrease the pressure on the landfill site, a pipe line has been laid out in a 10 acre area. Methane gas has been taken out in the area and grass has been grown there. There was a plan to use the garbage from the dump for filling the NH -9 but the same has not materialised till now.
Further, even electricity has been produced from the garbage present in the area. However, despite all this, the garbage keeps on increasing here.Â
