Noida police on Saturday arrested a youth for impersonating the Managing Director of Patanjali Ayurved Limited Acharya Balkrishna on Facebook, according to sources.

The accused, Mohammad Jeeshan allegedly created a fake Facebook account of Balkrishna and engaged in indecent and inappropriate conversations with Balkrishna’s followers.

Balkrishna is also the director and promotor of the Vedic Broadcasting Limited.

Patanjali spokesperson SK Tijarawala said that a deliberate effort was being made to defame religious leaders and said the accused in such cases be given similar punishment as given to those guilty of rape.

“What has happened is against the culture, religion, and values of Indian society, and an attempt to defame religious leaders by spreading false information about them. Accused in such cases should be given the same punishment as that given to those guilty of rape,” the Patanjali spokesperson tweeted in Hindi.

Jeeshan had been booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 419, 420 and 500- cheating, fraud and defamation and charged under Section 66 D of the Information Technology Act for cheating by personation by using computer resource, police said.
