Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday said the Signature Bridge on the Yamuna would be opened for public use by October 31, 2018, adding the iconic bridge would be one of the most important tourist destinations in the country with a 154-metre high glass box giving a bird’s eye view of the city to the visitors.

Sisodia said the final shape was being given to the top pylon and all the 15 cables installed were to be stressed.

“All this would be done in 2 months,” Sisodia added.

The Signature Bridge, aiming to reduce travel time between north and northeast Delhi by improving traffic movement on the Ring Road, was announced in 2004 but had missed several deadlines since 2011.

The bridge was initially expected to be completed at a modified estimate of Rs 1,131 crore for the Commonwealth Games, which was held in the national capital in October 2010.
