Another firing incident outside Jamia Millia Islamia on late Sunday night has yet again sparked protests in the area with people demanding police action. This is the third such incident of firing in last four days. No arrests have been made so far. Police sources told News Nation that initial probe reveal that the miscreants fled towards Jasola after the incident. The Delhi Police has filed an FIR in the case under Section 307/04 of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, 1959 (Section 27). According to Jamia Coordination Committee, firing happened at the University gate around 11.45 pm on Sunday by two unidentified persons. Here are latest updates from the Jamia firing incident:
1: According to the FIR, the firing was reported outside Gate No. 7 of the varsity. Some students said that they heard the gunshots outside Gate No. 1 also. No one was injured in the firing.
2: Curiously, no empty bullet shells were found anywhere near the said spot of the incident. There are varying versions of the vehicle that the shooters used. While some are saying it was a scooty, others claim it was a motorcycle.
3: After the incident, several students and local residents gathered outside the Jamia police station. The protesters raised slogans against the police.

4: Jamia Nagar SHO was seen trying to pacify the locals. “Before being a policeman, I am your brother,” the SHO told the protesters. He assured them of capturing the attackers as soon as possible.
5: According to the statement by the Jamia Coordination Committee, “one of the shooters was wearing Red Jacket and driving a Red Scooty with no. 1532. There were no reports of any injury.”
6: The police said some students told them that a shot was fired at the university gate, 2 km from Shaheen Bagh, where protesters have set up a tent on the road and dug in for nearly two months in protest against the CAA.
7: This is the third incident of firing in Delhi in last four days in this area. Jamia Millia Islamia and Shaheen Bagh has been at the centre of the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protests.

8: Earlier, two similar shootings were reported from the area. A ‘juvenile’ opened fire at anti-CAA protestors near Jamia Millia Islamia on January 30. Protestors and police personnel faced off against each other near the Jamia Millia Islamia University after the man fired a pistol at a group of anti-CAA protesters, injuring a student before walking away while waving the firearm over his head shouting "Yeh lo Aazadi".
9: In second incident, man named Kapil Gujjar opened fire in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area on Saturday.
10: On Saturday, he had fired two rounds in the air at Shaheen Bagh, where anti-CAA protests are being held for over a month now. After being overpowered by police personnel, Kapil had chanted "Jai Shri Ram" and said, "hamare desh me aur kisi ki nahi chalegi, sirf Hinduon ki chalegi (only Hindus shall have a say in our country, no one else)," as he was taken into custody by the Delhi Police.
