Industrialist Anand Mahindra is known for speaking his mind. Extremely popular on social media for his quirky tweets and innovative ideas, Mahindra has 7.4 million followers on Twitter. So, when the industry captain voiced his opinion on the JNU violence, it was natural for Twitter to sit up and take notice. “It doesn't matter what your politics are. It doesn't matter what your ideology is. It doesn't matter what your faith is. If you're an Indian, you cannot tolerate armed, lawless goons. Those who invaded JNU tonight must be traced & hunted down swiftly & given no quarter...,” Mahindra tweeted hitting out against the Sunday rampage on the JNU campus. The tweet has been retweeted 21K times and garnered 60K ‘likes’.

Biocon boss Kiran Mazumdar Shaw also slammed the violence and said, “This is unpardonable. Violence cannot be condoned.” RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka, another popular industrialist on Twitter, also commented on the issue in an indirect way. Without naming JNU, Goenka posted a note with poignant lines on importance of education. “Education is the spine of every nation....here are some very relevant lines,” Goenka said on Twitter. The line in the post read – “Destroying any nation does not require the use of atomic bombs or the use of long range missiles…It only requires lowering the quality of education…The collapse of education is the collapse of the nation.”

For three hours, masked thugs roamed freely, thrashing students, smashing windows as those inside JNU campus made frantic calls to police to save them. As many as 90 calls were made to the police. But it was not before 8 when a team of the Delhi Police finally entered the campus. JNU Student Union president Aishe Ghosh suffered severe head injuries. More than 30 students were injured in the Sunday violence.
