A day after Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid was allegedly attacked by an unidentified gunman at the Constitution Club near Parliament, the Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed that it was not intimated about the assassination attempt in the heart of national capital. The statement came after several questions were raised about security arrangements in Lutyens's Delhi following the attack on the JNU leader, who escaped unhurt.

However, late on Monday, the police said that they have released a CCTV grab of the suspect, who was caught on camera while escaping from the spot. The grab has been installed at Vitthalbhai Patel Road.

Meanwhile, the incident took a dramatic turn after student activist Shehla Rashid Shora on Tuesday filed a case in Srinagar against mafia don Ravi Poojary for allegedly threatening her, Khalid and Jignesh Mewani to kill if they don't stop mobilising people on social media to join their civil society group United Against Hate.

"FIR number 45/2018 u/s (under section) 506 RPC filed by Jammu and Kashmir Police against Ravi Poojary on my complaint," Shora wrote on Twitter.

The student activist also put on a shocking WhatsApp conversation on Twitter, in which Poojara warned her to shut her mouth or otherwise he will shut her mouth forever. "Tell Umar Khalid and Jignesh Mewani also. Mafia don Ravi Poojary," the screenshot read.

"Meanwhile, got this death threat from right-wing Hindutvawadi fundamentalist Ravi Poojary. He warns Umar Khalid, Jignesh Mevani and me to shut up! Threat by SMS #DigitalIndia," shora captioned her tweet.

On Monday, Khalid and his friends met at the Constitution Club and were supposed to hold a discussion on mob lynching and minority alienation under the Narendra Modi regime but failed to do the same following the sudden attack on him.

Khalid and group were trying to gather eyewitnesses from different parts of India, including Rajasthan, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, where several incidents of mob-lynching have been taking place in the name of Hindutva and cow protection.

Khalid, Kanhaiya Kumar, Shehla Rashid, who in 2016 were implicated in a sedition case for allegedly raising anti-national slogans, have been receiving frequent death threats from several Hindutva supporters across India.

Rashid, on the other hand, is also receiving rape threats on social media. Despite repeated complaints, the police did not take any action against these online offenders so far.

While the trio has been facing assaults in various public platform since 2016, the murder attempt on Khalid has raised eyebrows over the safety of several JNU students and activists across the capital.
