Jagan Mohan Reddy, the YSR Congress Party chief and Andhra Pradesh leader, was stabbed at the Vishakhapatnam airport by an attacker who hasn't been identified on Thursday. The YSR Congress leader was seen with an injury and blood on his left arm after being stabbed with a sharp metal object.
The attacker claimed he wanted to take a selfie with Jagan Reddy. According to officials, Jagan allowed the youth near him when he requested to take a selfie.
“The youth also asked Jagan if YSRCP will win 160 seats in elections next year. After clicking a selfie he turned around and slashed him on the arm with a blade that is usually used in cockfights. The youth was immediately taken into custody,” an official said.
The initial report said the assailant was employed at the airport canteen, but no official confirmation was immediately available.
To everyone worried about my safety,I’d like to inform you that I am safe. God's grace&love, concern&blessings of people of Andhra will protect me.Such cowardice acts will not dissuade me but only strengthen my resolve to work for the people of my state, tweets Jaganmohan Reddy pic.twitter.com/afHdDS9RMZ— ANI (@ANI) October 25, 2018
The incident left party leaders livid who were quick to accuse the ruling TDP government of inadequate security arrangements for their leader Jagan Kumar Reddy. “When you cannot even take in a nail cutter, how did this youth get into the lounge with that sharp instrument,” asked YSRCP MLA Roja Selvamani as quoted by the Indian Express.
