New Delhi:

The state of Telangana on Saturday reported first death due to novel coronavirus. The state has also witnessed a surge in the positive cases. On Saturday, 6 new people tested positive taking the count to 65. Earlier, 11 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported on Friday. It was the highest number of cases registered in a single day after six positive cases on March 24.

The 59 cases on Friday include the three detected late on Thursday. The number was 45 for large part of Thursday, but the three late-night cases increased the total to 48, director of public health (Telangana) G Srinivasa Rao told TOI.

Of the total cases in state, one has been discharged while 58 are being treated.

Earlier, at a media conference on Friday, chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao again appealed to the people to maintain social distancing and selfdiscipline during the lockdown.

“People should understand that despite complete lockdown and night curfew, local transmission of the virus is happening. A person who came from Dubai tested positive earlier and now his family members are also infected. If there were no restrictions on the movement of people, the number of cases could have been more,” he said.
