Days after the ‘honour killing’ of a Christian man in Telangana’s Nalgonda district, a newly-wed couple was on Wednesday injured in an attack allegedly by her father for going against the family’s wishes in Erragadda Road in Hyderabad, according to sources.

“The man attacked the couple with a sickle and they suffered bleeding injuries. They have been admitted to a private hospital,” a senior police official told PTI, adding the assailant fled the scene.

A CCTV footage from a nearby building shows the victims, Sandeep and Madhavi, were being attacked from behind by the man with a sickle as they were sitting on a two wheeler.

Madhavi suffered serious injuries on her neck and hand while her husband Sandeep sustained injury in his face and neck. The condition of Madhavi is said to be critical, according to reports.

The official said that some local residents, who said the couple got married a week ago, against her father’s wish as it was an inter-caste marriage, found the couple lying bleeding on the road and got them shifted to a private hospital.

“Sandeep was called by her father-in-law to a location in Erragadda here on the pretext of buying them some garments and the couple reached there... but he suddenly attacked them,” one of Sandeep’s friends told the media.

A case was registered against the father under IPC Section 307 for stabbing his daughter and son-in law.

Last week, a newly married 23-year-old man from a scheduled caste community was hacked to death in the Miryalaguda division of Nalgonda district in Telangana in a case of alleged honour killing.
