A special court convicted four accused in the 2008 Japiur serial blasts case. Four accused Sarvar Aazmi, Mohammad Saif, Saifur Rahman, and Salman convicted. Another accused Shahbaaz acquitted after being given benefit of doubt. Eight explosions were carried out on May 13, 2008 killing 80 people. Nearly 200 people were injured in the blasts. The blasts rocked Tripolia Bazar, where large number of devotees turned up at a Hanuman temple, Johari Bazar, Manas Chowk, Badi Choupal and Choti Choupal -- all located within a two-km radius in the old city. Shahbaz Hussain, Mohammad Saif, Mohammad Sarwar Azmi, Saifur Rahman, and Mohammad Salman were arrested in connection with the case. Around 1200 witnesses had recorded their statements. Two other accused in the Jaipur blast case, Mohammad Atik Sajid Chhota, died in an encounter with police at Delhi’s Batla House in 2008.
