Coronavirus Breakthrough? Jaipur Doctors Successfully 'Treat' Italian Tourist With HIV And Malaria Drugs

She was part of the group of 23 Italian tourists who were visiting India. Her 69-year-old husband was also tested positive of coronavirus.

At a time when scientists and researches all over the world are battling to find an effective medicine for the coronavirus pandemic, Indian doctors may have achieved stunning success. Doctors at prestigious Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Rajasthan’s capital city Jaipur have reportedly treated a coronavirus patient. According to the information available in the public domain, the woman is an Italian tourist who was tested positive for COVID-19. She was part of the group of 23 Italian tourists who were visiting India. Her 69-year-old husband was also tested positive of coronavirus. The woman was being treated at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital. Latest reports suggest that she has been tested negative for the COVID-19 disease in last 24 hours. The woman was being administered with HIV and malaria drugs. A report by The Times of India confirmed the same. Jaipur doctors also gave her H1N1 drugs. (COVID 19 LIVE UPDATES)

With the woman testing negative, it is quite possible that this combination of drugs might just be the answer the world is looking for. However, the World Health Organization or any other international panel of researchers have yet not verified the efficacy of the unique treatment.

There are also reports that the global drug makers are testing common arthritis medicine for the purpose of COVID-19 treatment. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Sanofi SA are will soon launch clinical trials to see whether their arthritis drug could treat symptoms of novel coronavirus infections.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Rohit Kumar Singh said on Wednesday that the woman’s husband, who was the first patient to be tested positive for coronavirus, has also shown low viral load. "The Italian woman have tested negative for the virus two times in the past 24 hours," Singh added.   

The officer said that 344 tests have been conducted so far in the state and only three of them (Italian couple and the Jaipur-based man) were tested positive. Nine samples are under process as of now, he added.

In related news, the Haryana government on Thursday declared the contagious coronavirus infection an epidemic. "COVID-19 declared epidemic in Haryana," Health minister Anil Vij said in a tweet. According to the state Health Department, 44 samples of suspected cases were sent for tests till Wednesday. Out of these, 38 were found negative for coronavirus while reports of six people were awaited.
