Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Nowgam area of Srinagar on Wednesday, the police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the city on information that some militants had sneaked in the area. According to a report by news agency ANI, the firing started early on Wednesday morning. Internet services in the area have been suspended to avoid any untoward situation. Educational institutions have also been shut as a precautionary measure. A police official said locals have been told not to go near the operation site till the area has been santiised.

It is pertinent to mention that on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who was in Srinagar to review the security situation in the state, had said that terror and talks cannot go together with Pakistan and the solution to all complex problems of Jammu and Kashmir lies in the path of democracy.Â
