The Pakistan army resorted to heavy shelling by artillery guns and mortars along the LoC in northern Kashmir's Uri sector, prompting befitting retaliation by the Indian army on Wednesday, officials said. According to news agency ANI, one soldier has lost his life during the firing. The Pakistani troops also used small arms to target several civilian and defence locations in the sector in Baramulla district, they said.
Indian troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) have retaliated resulting in heavy exchange of fire which is going on till the reports last came in from the area, they said. Shelling by artillery guns have also targeted villages deep inside the LoC on this side triggering and panic among the residents.
On Sunday also the Pakistan army violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence spokesperson said.
The firing from across the border started in Rajouri's Nowshera sector on Sunday morning and that in Mendhar, Krishna Ghati and Poonch sectors went on overnight, he said. The Indian Army retaliated befittingly in all sectors and there was no report of any casualty in Pakistani firing, the spokesperson said, adding that casualties suffered by the other side were not known immediately.
"At about 10.15 am (on Sunday), Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and shelling with mortars in Nowshera sector (Rajouri). The Indian Army is retaliating befittingly," he said.
