Srinagar:

A Special Police Officer (SPO) belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir Police went missing from a PDP MLA’s residence on Friday, the police said. Several weapons are also said to be missing, the police said. The SPO identified as Adil Bashir, who was posted at PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir’s house at Jawahar Nagar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar, went missing from the guard room.

Later, it was found that apart from the SPO, nine rifles were also missing. According to reports, Adil Bashir was posted at Mir’s house who is the Wachi MLA.

“SPO Adil Bashir decamped with the service weapons including seven AK-47 rifles, one INSAS and one pistol from the guard room at J-11, government quarters Jawahar Nagar," a senior police officer said as quoted by Times of India, adding that the Jammu and Kashmir DGP has also announced a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh for his capture with the weapons.

Bashir was posted as an SPO on March 11 in 2017. Following the incident, a high alert has been sounded across Srinagar to nab the SPO.
