A massive landslide has occurred on the highway at Meharin Ramban district late last night thereby blocking the highway for vehicular traffic, a Traffic Police officer said on Monday.

Jammu-Srinagar highway shut due to landslide in Ramban district

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed due to massive landslide triggered by rains in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.

"A massive landslide has occurred on the highway at Meharin Ramban district late last night thereby blocking the highway for vehicular traffic," a Traffic Police officer said on Monday.

Almost the entire stretch of the highway has come under huge boulders and debris, he said, adding it will take at least one day to clear the highway.

The men and machines of the BRO have started work to clear the highway of debris, he said. In the wake of the landslide, there will be no vehicular movement on the highway either from Jammu or Srinagar, he said, adding this has been done keeping in view the safety  an drity of the passengers.

According to reports, over 500 vehicles are stranded atvarious places en route.
