J-K: Restrictions imposed in five places in Srinagar amid separatists’ call for shutdown

Restrictions under Section 144 CrPc have been imposed in parts of Srinagar as a precautionary measure in view of a strike called by separatists, authorities said Thursday.

Five police stations in Srinagar - Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal and MR Gunj - have been put under restrictions, a police official said, adding that the restrictions were imposed as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in the state.

 Separatists belonging to the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), protesting against the killing of three militants in a recent encounter, on Wednesday announced strike across Kashmir valley on Thursday.

 The three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces at Fateh Kadal area of the old city in Srinagar on Wednesday morning.

Shops and other business establishments in the city were shut in view of the strike call. Public transport stayed off the roads while a few private vehicles were seen plying in some areas, the official said.

Mobile Internet continued to remain suspended in Srinagar, while network speeds have been reduced in some other districts of the valley. 
And the shutdown was observed at other district headquarters, the official added.
