Heavy to very heavy rain along with squally and stormy weather is likely to hit South and coastal Bengal in the next five days. The inclement weather may dampen the festive spirit ahead of the Durga Puja celebrations in West Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department said in its Monday forecast.
Durga puja festival will be celebrated for four long days starting October 16. Hence, preparations for the biggest festival in the state have begun.
However, owing to the influence of a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal, the IMD said that squally weather along with rough to very rough seas is likely to persist along and off West Bengal and Odisha coast.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to hit North and South 24-Parganas, Howrah, Burdwan, East and West Midnapore, Nadia and Murshidabad districts, beginning Wednesday to Friday.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the deep sea from October 9 to October 12. Those who are in deep seas are also advised to return to coast by Monday night, the IMD said.
