The metro railway services in Kolkata were partially disrupted on Thursday after a man attempted suicide by jumping on the tracks in front of a coming train at Belgachia station. The man was rescued and rushed to state-run RG Kar Medical College Hospital. The passengers vacated the affected train as efforts were made to bring normalcy.
The incident occurred at around 9.24 am to resume only at 10:01 am after a disruption of 35 minutes. The metro services were disrupted between Girish Park and Kavi Subhash stations.
In a similar incident, a 26-year-old woman on Sept 7 committed suicide by jumping in front of an oncoming train at the Model Town metro station in New Delhi, briefly disrupting services on the Delhi Metro's Yellow Line. The deceased has been identified as Sonakshi Garg, a resident of Paharganj.
The Kolkata Metro currently consists of one operational line of 27.22 km from Noapara to Kavi Subhash. Moreover, construction on three other lines is underway.
