Fresh violence erupts in Kasganj, 50 arrested as CM Yogi orders police to act tough

The Western Uttar Pradesh’s town has been on the boil since Friday when clashes broke out during a Tiranga Rally carried out by ABVP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists resulting in the death of 22-year old Chandan Gupta while another youth Naushad was admitted to hospital. According to reports both had bullet injuries.

Three vehicles were set on fire in two separate incidents in Nadrai and Chungi areas of Kasganj on Saturday as a new spate of violence broke out in the already volatile precinct.   

The Western Uttar Pradesh’s town has been on the boil since Friday when clashes broke out during a Tiranga Rally carried out by ABVP and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists resulting in the death of 22-year old Chandan Gupta while another youth Naushad was admitted to hospital. According to reports both had bullet injuries.

Aligarh Division Commissioner SC Sharma said, “We are patrolling the area and trying to avoid such incidents. This incident took place on the outskirts hence we don't have much information available to us.”

RP Singh, Kasganj District Magistrate said that the police has arrested 49 people while senior police officers from Western UP were also rushed to Kasganj.

He added that Section 144 has been imposed in the entire town with adequate police personnel keeping a tight vigil on the situation.

The police have also asked for drone cameras to keep bird's-eye view of the place.
