Uttar Pradesh police filed chargesheet against 13 persons in connection with the murder of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari on Tuesday. The chargesheet was filed at a local court in Lucknow. Two of the accused, Ashraf and Moinuddin, have been charged with murder. Kamlesh Tiwari was shot dead at his residence in Khurshed Bagh area of Lucknow on October 18, 2019. The killing was said to be a revenge for remarks that Kamlesh Tiwari had made in 2015 against Prophet Mohammed. The assailants came dressed in saffron kurtas to give him a sweets box with an address of a sweet shop in Surat city in Gujarat.

According to reports, eleven of these accused are presently in jail. One person, Kaifi Ali, is out on bail, while Tanveer, a resident of Nepal who had allegedly sheltered the two alleged killers is absconding.

The autopsy report of former Hindu Mahasabha leader had revealed some gruesome details. Kamlesh Tiwari was stabbed 15 times, shot in the face and an attempt was made to slit his throat. It seemed that the killers did not want Tiwari to survive under any circumstance. The stabbing was mostly on the upper part of Tiwari's body, revealed the post-mortem report. It added that two deep cut marks on Tiwari's neck underlined that an attempt was made to slit his throat.
