In a crackdown against cow killing, at least 30 men were arrested at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly smuggling over 600 buffaloes, police said on Thursday.
The police, acting on a tip-off, seized nine vehicles on the National Highway-2 near Mirzamurad area on Wednesday. They buffaloes were being brought from Bihar to UP’s Unnao district, Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Kulkarni said.

The 30 men included drivers, cleaners and cattle smugglers, the police said. They were found transporting around 100 dead buffaloes and 541 live buffaloes, the SSP said.
A case has been registered against them, Kulkarni added.
