A day after two Uttar Pradesh policemen on patrol duty in self-defence allegedly shot dead an Apple area manager in Lucknow, several netizens, including his family members, Saturday took to social media expressing their anger over the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Vivek Tewari, 38, and was on his car with ex-colleague Sana Khan when the incident took place around 1:30 am in Lucknow’s upscale Gomtinagar extension area Friday.
Tiwari got injured on the neck after constable Prashant Chaudhary fired at the car’s windshield. The vehicle then ended up ramming into the pillar of a bridge nearby. Following the incident, Tiwari was rushed to the Lohia Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
As per the post-mortem report, there is a firearm injury from a bullet on the left side of the chin and viscera of Tiwari. A thorough investigation has been started to establish the sequence of events. SSP Lucknow said, SIT is formed under SP crime and a request has been sent to District Magistrate for a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
Reacting strong to Tiwari's murder, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "It was not an encounter. An investigation will be conducted in this incident. If needed, we will order a CBI inquiry into the incident".

To slam the Uttar Pradesh police for the dreadful incident, Kalpana Tiwari, the wife of the deceased said, "Police had no right to shoot at my husband" and wanted the chief minister to come and talk to her regarding the incident". She also dashed a letter to Adityanath demanding a compensation of Rs 1 crore and a job in the police department.

"Was he a terrorist that police shot at him? We choose Yogi Adityanath as our representative, we want him to take cognizance of the incident and also demand an unbiased CBI inquiry," Vishnu Shukla, Tiwari's brother-in-law was quoted by ANI as saying.
"It's a clear case of murder.I've served as a police inspector, I know a person is never shot in the neck. Such an incident never occurred the way it has under Yogi government," Tiwari's uncle Tilakraj said.
However, constable Chaudhary and his colleague Sandeep Kumar were arrested soon after police registered an FIR on Sana’s complaint. On being asked about her ex-colleague’s murder Sana said, "I am not in a condition to say anything right now. Even I want the culprit to be punished. I am under no pressure to hide the truth".
"This is a sad incident. A case of murder under section 302 IPC has been registered against the two policemen. Stringent action will be taken," Anand Kumar, UP ADG Law and Order said on the incident.

Meanwhile, giving an explanation over the incident, the constable said, "At 2 am last night, I saw a suspicious car with its lights off, when I approached the car, the driver (Vivek Tiwari) tried to run over me thrice to kill me. I fired a bullet in self-defence, he then immediately took off from the spot".
Tiwari, who was an Apple area manager by profession, is survived by his wife and two daughters.
